WHICH CENOTES TO VISIT

Cenote Chikin Ha

Cenote Garden of Eden

Cenote Chikin Ha

This cenote is located approximately 25 km from Playa del Carmen, and it is the first cenote in a system that connects several cenotes through more than 10 km of underwater passages. During the dive, you will be making your way to the nearby Rainbow cenote. Upon reaching a depth of about 10m, you may experience strange visual effects as the salt and the fresh water start to mix. This is what it is called the halocline. Descend a couple of meters into the salt and experience the comfortable change in temperature as salt water is warmer than fresh water. Surfacing the Rainbow cenote there is the chance to see the never ending search for water in the jungle, the roots of many plants grow through the rock and stretch to the water´s surface. Always keep an eye toward the entrance for spectacular light effects on sunny days.

Cenote Chac Mool

Cenote Garden of Eden

Cenote Chikin Ha

The entrance to this cenote is about 100 mts south of Puerto Aventuras.  There are 3 different water entrance to the Chac Mool system. On one side of the parking area, we have Little Brother cenote and Kukulkan cenote. In the main entrance we may access directly to the Dome Room. Here a portion of the ceiling has collapsed under an air dome where the divers can surface and admire a lot of beautiful stalactites and some fossils. Ku Kulkan entrance is through a beautiful pond at once end of the cenote. At approximately 10m, you will be entering the halocline zone. This phenomenon is called halocline and it creates a strange blurry visual effect. Shine your light to the point were salt and fresh water meet and marvel the reflections projected on the walls of the cavern. The light effects are amazing, as sunlight penetrates the darkness. Take a moment to look towards the ceiling at the entrance to see the colors of the rainbow. With its maximum depth of 12m-36ft, it is a perfect place for the new cavern divers. Chac Mool is also known by cave divers, because of the famous Room of the Monster where cave divers may admire the largest underwater stalactite in the world.
