PADI Tec Basics (Elementary Tec Deep Course)

Course Overview: The course is designed to be a bridge from PADI courses to DSAT courses providing recreational divers an opportunity to gain exposure to tec diving and learn and practice entry level tec diving skills. It introduces recreational divers to tec diving without them having to make the larger commitment (in terms of equipment, time and cost) of the DSAT Tec Deep course. PADI Tec Basics dive scope is within recreational limits, using segments from DSAT Tec 40  and this diver specialty course may be credited toward DSAT Tec 40.

Diver Prerequisites:

  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or qualifying prerequisite certification. PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent is recommended.
  • PADI Enriched Air Diver or qualifying prerequisite certification.
  • 18 Years of age.

(The Tec Deep instructor reserves the right to accept or decline a Tec Deep student based on their knowledge of the divers abilities and personal character / maturity).

Student Equipment Requirements:

The student tec diver shall have the same equipment as tec divers taking the full course with just a couple of exceptions - the tec dive equipment is supplied with the course:

  • High capacity single cylinder with Y or H valve. Twins with dual manifold and isolator valve are recommended.
  • SPG
  • Harness with shoulder and rigid hip D-rings.
  • BCD – wings (redundant buoyancy is not required for this course, however, dive students should be made aware that redundant buoyancy device is required for Tec Diver 1.

 

  • Primary and secondary regulators – primary regulator must have a seven foot / two meter hose for air sharing.

Required Student Materials: DSAT Tec Deep Diver Manual

Course Overview: The Tec Deep basics involves 4 dives. 2 confirmed water dives and 2 open water dives. The maximum dive depth during the course is 24 meters (80 feet). Duration:2 days.

Academic Content: The Dive student must read chapters one and two in the Tec Deep Diver manual and complete the Knowledge Reviews for each. This may be done as pre-study as is recommended.

Students should sign the PADI Enriched Air Diver release and complete the standard RSTC Medical form.

 

DSAT TEC COURSE SEQUENCE REQUIREMENTS:

           

1.    Student diver studies the reading assignment from different sections of the DSAT Tec Deep Diver Manual and handouts, and answers the assigned exercise questions.

2.    Student complete KR for the section

3.    Review with instructor the KRs

4.    Remediate where necessary

5.    Complete examination for each level

 

 

 

DSAT Tec 40


Pre-requisites:

1.    PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization)

2.    PADI Enriched Air Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization)

3.    PADI Deep Diver or proof of ten dives to 30m(or qualifying certification from another organization)

4.    Have a minimum of 30 logged dives, of which at least 7 must be to 30m, 10 must be on EAN,

5.    Minimum age: 18 years old

Course Duration: 3-4 full days. This level can be combined with either Tec 45 or the complete Tec 50 program.

During the Course: The entry point into the technical range, Tec 40 provides a transition from recreational to technical diving. Although the use of full tech gear (doubles and wings) is preferred, it does allow modified use of recreational gear in some situations, provided the diver has two separate regulators, with one of the first stages fitted with a long hose. (a main cylinder and pony cylinder combination). The intended working limit for a diver at this level is 40 metres/130 feet with up to 10 minutes of non-accelerated decompression. They may use any EANx mix with up to 50% oxygen content or air. To enroll on the course, a diver must be the equivalent of a PADI Advanced Open Water diver, with an EANx Diver rating and have deep recreational diving experience.


Pre-study of the DSAT Tec Deep Training manual is essential.

You'll learn to make gas switch, extended no-decompression dives using air and enriched air to 40 metres/130 feet. You'll also prepare for and respond to foreseeable technical diving emergencies. Since it forms part of the full Tec 50 course, you can extend your diver training to Tec 45 or Tec 50 at any time.

 

DIVES TEC 40:

Dive 1: CW or limited OW with ready access to water shallow enough to stand up. Minimum depth 8ft maximum depth 30ft. Deco: no stop only. Gas: air, eanx up to 50%. Ratio: 6:1; 8:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50%.

Dive 2: OW. Minimum depth 30ft maximum depth 60ft. Deco: no stop only. Gas: air, eanx up to 50% Ratio: 6:1; 8:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50%.

 

Dive 3: OW. Minimum depth 50ft maximum depth 90ft. Deco: no stop only. Gas: air, eanx up to 50% Ratio: 4:1; 6:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50%.

Dive 4: OW. Minimum depth 85ft maximum depth 130ft. deco: up to 10min total deco time based on breathing bottom gas throught the dive (no accelerated deco). Gas: air, eanx up to 50% Ratio: 3:1; 4:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50%.

 

 

DSAT Tec 45

 

Pre-requisites :

1.    Students must be certified to the Tec 40 level or hold the equivalent rating from another training agency.

2.    Have a minimum of 50 logged dives,12 dives must be deeper than 18 metres/60 feet using EANx and at least 6 dives must be deeper than 30 metres/100 feet (with or without using EANx)

3.    Minimum age: 18 years old

Course Duration: 3-4 full days. This level can be combined with either Tec 40 or the complete Tec 50

 

During the Course : You will complete 4 training dive three knowledge sessions and practical application and exam.

After successful completion of the DSAT Tec 45 course you'll be able to conduct gas-switch extended no-decompression dives, decompression dives and accelerated decompression dives using air and enriched air to a depth of 45 metres/145 feet. You'll also understand the hazards and risks involved in technical diving, as well as how to prepare for and handle reasonable foreseeable technical diving emergencies.

 

DIVES TEC 45:

Dive 1: CW or limited OW with ready access to water shallow enough to stand up. Minimum depth 8ft maximum depth 30ft. Deco: no stop only. Gas: air or eanx. Ratio: 6:1; 8:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50%.

Dive 2: OW. Minimum depth 40ft maximum depth 60ft. Deco: no stop only. Gas: air or eanx. Ratio: 4:1; 6:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50%.

Dive 3: OW. Minimum depth 60ft maximum depth 100ft. deco: no stop only. Gas: air, eanx or O2. Ratio: 4:1; 6:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50%.

Dive 4: OW. Minimum depth 90ft maximum depth 145ft. Deco: single gas deco, gas switch for conservatism. Gas: air, eanx or O2. Ratio: 3:1; 4:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50%.

 

DSAT Tec 50 Full course (covering Tec 40 , Tec 45 & Tec 50 or the Tec 50 alone)



Pre-requisites :

1.    Students must be certified to the Tec 45 level or hold the equivalent rating from another training agency.

2.    Have a minimum of 100 logged dives of which 20 must be enriched air dives, 20 dives must be deeper than 18 metres/60 feet and at least 15 dives must be deeper than 30 metres/100 feet

3.    Minimum age: 18 years old

    Course Duration: 3-4 full days stand alone or 9 days to complete all three levels.

    During the Course: You will complete 12 training dives (for the 3 levels) and 4 training dives for the stand alone program  including the use of twin manifold tanks, back-plate and harness and wing system with stage tanks.

Pre-study of the DSAT Tec Deep Training Manual is essential.

The Course Covers: (but is not limited to) Technical risks and responsibilities, technical equipment rigging, gas planning, team diving, technical pre-dive checks, specific tech diving hand signals, gas shut down drills, gas switching, long hose gas sharing, lift bag deployment, removal and replacement of deco cylinders, equipment and gas failure procedures, handling technical diver emergencies and rescue drills, oxygen management, decompression computer software, executing decompression stops and dives.

After successful completion of the DSAT Tec 50 Diver course you'll be able to conduct gas-switch extended no-decompression dives, decompression dives and accelerated decompression dives using air and enriched air to a depth of 50 metres/165 feet. You'll also understand the hazards and risks involved in technical diving, as well as how to prepare for and handle reasonable foreseeable technical diving emergencies.

DIVES TEC 50:

Dive 1: CW or limited OW with ready access to water shallow enough to stand up. Minimum depth 8ft maximum depth 30ft. Deco: no stop only, 5 stop simulated decompression. Gas: air or eanx. Ratio: 6:1; 8:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50% and one with 100%.

Dive 2: OW. Minimum depth 40ft maximum depth 80ft. Deco: no stop only, 30min simulated deco. Gas: air or eanx. Ratio: 4:1; 6:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50% and one with 100%.

Dive 3: OW. Minimum depth 100ft maximum depth 165ft. Deco: deco dive with 2 deco gases. Gas: air, eanx or O2. Ratio: 3:1; 4:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50% and one with 100%.

Dive 4: OW. Minimum depth 130ft maximum depth 165ft. deco: deco dive with 2 deco gases. Gas: air, eanx or O2. Ratio: 3:1; 4:1 with CA. One set of double and one stage with 50% and one with 100%.

 

DSAT TEC TRIMIX

 

Beyond the realms of deep air diving we introduce trimix - a gas blend consisting of oxygen, helium and nitrogen, for those wishing to explore deeper into technical diving. The DSAT Tec Trimix Course is designed for individuals already certified and experienced in technical deep decompression diving with air and enriched air nitrox. The course is designed to extend your depth range capabilities utilizing trimix to a max depth of 75m.



Pre-requisites :

  1. Certified as a PADI Rescue Diver or have a qualifying certification in diver rescue and accident management from another organization *. Students who meet this through a qualifying non-PADI certification need to provide proof of CPR and first aid training within the previous two years.
  2. Certified as a DSAT Tec Deep Diver or have a qualifying certification in deep decompression diving using air/enriched air from another organization *. Students who qualify through a qualifying certification other than DSAT Tec Deep Diver must read the entire DSAT Tec Deep Diver Manual and complete the Knowledge Reviews prior to beginning the Tec Trimix Diver course.
  3. Minimum age: 18 years old


Course Duration: 5 days

 

Considerations: We will only accept students for this program after pre-assessment of their current technical diving certification and capabilities.

DSAT GAS BLENDER

More people are diving with enriched air and this means the demand for enriched air fills is also increasing. However, there needs to be someone qualified to administer these fills to meet this demand. This is where the DSAT Gas Blender course comes in. It can result in one of two certifications: DSAT Gas Blender or DSAT Trimix Blender. Being a gas blender has significant advantages to your technical diving at any level, it gives you the confidence and understanding of the mixes you require to execute your dives.

 
Pre-requisites :

  1. PADI Enriched Air Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization)
  2. Minimum age: 18 years old

Course Duration: 1 Day

End Results: The DSAT Gas Blender course will train you as a qualified gas blender, allowing you to provide gas mixes to appropriately certified consumers. You'll learn the physical properties of oxygen, its associated hazards, handling requirements and what cleaning equipment is necessary. Finally, you will learn the five methods of obtaining the desired enriched air nitrox mix and the various methods used to obtain proper helium mixes.

Considerations: You must hold an appropriate Trimix Diver Certification before becoming certified as a DSAT Trimix Blender. To update your certification will take an additional half day.
